The pact ' poem for the fallen challenge.. copyright sonny roseman

'The Pact' (A Poem for film Challenge For The Fallen 'Never To Be Parted-our short film and entry)
By Sonya Roseman 04/07/14

It is nearing spring, early summer of 1915
Men joining up, be over by Christmas... At least that was the dream

Shadrach (Critchely) signs up to do his bit,
Fellow men in the trenches are being hit
Maimed and killed are the stories being told
Thus the  propaganda of printed lies that are sold

The 'joy' of war..''Women of Britain say GO!##
With no such thought in a coffin ( covered by union jack) would they be returning home

Parties on the streets on declaration of 'war to end all wars!'
Annie (Critchely) sobs into her hands in a  tragic premonition on the cold kitchen floor

Three days leave for shadrach and white feathers for the cowards
Trench warfare, fear, gas, zeppelins and deaths bullets for showers

They make 'The Pact' yes we are 'Never to be Parted '
He could  never kill another soul, a pacifist marching to the end and wholehearted

The pact of the truest love for ones wife and thy neighbour
More of a man, No coward!! and never a slayer!!

They loved once more and turned the gas oven on
Lay there entwined as deaths kiss did come

So learn of this true tale of wars 'Romeo and Juliet'
All is not far in love and war ..
LEST WE FORGET!
